TIME TEAM … RESULT!!!

Well better late than never…. Thanks you to all those who sent me their photographs of the Time Team dig.  I am not going to spoil the outcome completely but here is an update on the find as of the end of the three days.  The Time Team confirm what everyone knew and that is there is definitely a town buried under the shifting sands.  What they did reveal which we didnt know was the size and extent of the city that has been preserved magnificently below the  sand dunes, only a short distance down!   The Geophys that was presented to Gareth the Landlord is one of the most fascinating of documents to date.  It clearly shows the perimeter of the town of Kenfig, its buildings, streets, moat, ramparts etc …. more than we could have hoped for.  The Time Team themselves were inspired by the constant finds over the short period they were on the dunes and expressed an absolute delight at the discovery, wishing desperately to have remained on the dig a lot longer.  The support and turnout by the local residents and those enthusiasts from different parts of Wales and, indeed, the country, showed a general interest in our local history and that of archeology in general.  I would love to reveal all but in view of the fact that there will be a television programme transmitted in April 2012, showing the artifacts and historical evidence, together with an intriguing account of life in general during the Saxon era within the town of Kenfig; I can only post the photographs taken and supplied by those attending the dig.  It is the intention of Gareth, the Licensee, to hold a Time Team Day at the Prince to celebrate the airing of this programme.  Keep your eyes open on this site for more details.  It will promise to be another GREAT day!!!!!

THE TIME TEAM ARE COMING!!!

Time Team

THE TIME TEAM ARE COMING!!!!!Starts: 12:00 am At last … recognition … On Tuesday 9 August 2011, the well known programme ‘Time Team’ production is coming to Kenfig. Their plans are centred around the old ruins of Kenfig Castle which is situated within the neighbouring sand dunes. The dig will take place over three days and the heart of the event will be centred around the Prince of Wales Inn where it is anticipated the ‘Time Team’ will use the upstairs Court Room as their local ‘base’. Let’s try and make this a good social and supportive affair by all the locals and any interested parties by giving them a full on welsh welcome to an area we are all proud of. Perhaps, at last, some of the mysteries that have lurked within folklore and around the history of the area will give up their past and furnish us with answers that we can include finally in our knowledge of this lovely area. We will, as always be serving good food to keep our customers happy on these days and the Pub’s licensing hours remain unchanged. I hope to see you all there. Keep watching this space to read any updates on the progress of the ‘Time Team’.
